We hope you’re planning a wonderful and delicious Thanksgiving. Send us some pictures of your turkey creations on Facebook so we can enjoy them vicariously—we’ve been mostly camped out at the factory making sure things go smoothly and are missing a bit of the holiday spirit.
The past three weeks have been our busiest so far. We’ve locked in the design changes, paid for tooling, selected final suppliers and placed orders on our long lead-time parts. We’ve been life testing, heat testing, and water testing the factory prototypes so we know the Nomiku can handle your kitchen environment and will last a long time. We’ve also done a lot of work to finish a useful, beautiful primer on low temperature cooking with yummy recipes.
One of the most exciting parts of the month was testing the water resistant seal on the Nomiku body. Bam and Chris (our ME from D2M) have been working really hard to make this a reality. The Nomiku is now officially the only water resistant immersion circulator in the world! However, you should never fully immerse it in water. Click on the link to see the shower that the Nomiku took, after which the inside of Nomiku was completely dry.
The next few weeks we are preparing specifications for testing each component of the Nomiku, and the factory is making fixtures for assembling and testing the parts. The first, very rough off-tool parts should come out in about three weeks, and once that happens it will be 3-4 cycles of measure-test-update before we have the tools running for mass production. This puts us right on track for our updated schedule with delivery in March.
This thanksgiving, we’re grateful to all our backers for giving us the chance to make our project come true. We can’t wait for you to sit down around perfect low temperature turkey, eel, or squash next year.
