The Nomiku team had the honor of attending one of Food52′s dinners yesterday, in honor of their Genius Recipes cook book! Their team is traveling around the country doing some awesome pop-up dinners (serving some of their Genius recipes of course!), and San Francisco was their first stop.
Held at the Cookhouse right next to the famous Vesuvio Cafe, the Food52 team with their beverage partner Stella Artois, served a four-course dinner, explaining why each of the recipes was in fact truly genius.
And the Cookhouse was the perfect venue. Enough room for about twenty guests, including food lovers and artisans from several local SF companies, we got to rub elbows and stuff our faces with some old and new faces–all while enjoying a view of San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood.
The open-air kitchen allowed us to watch the chefs prepare each course, while photographers and videographers captured the entire evening. Look out for a video of the event soon from Food52!
Here’s the first course of pan-fried white beans with kale on a crostini! So flavorful with lots of textures playing off of one another, perfectly. Definitely whet our appetites while we sipped on our Stella out of our fancy Stella chalices!
The second course of the carrot avocado salad was the perfect summer dish. It was light, bright, and just filling enough. It even came with some bonus chive blossoms!
The chicken thighs were probably a crowd favorite, and deservingly so. The skin was seared to crispy amazingness, while it enclosed some of the juiciest chicken ever. It might not have been sous vide, but we didn’t mind ;) Please excuse that extra bean and kale from the first dish–we couldn’t resist getting some more.
And of course dessert! It was coined as the “Easiest Strawberry Shortcakes”. We’re not sure how easy they were to make, but they were sure easy to eat! The perfect ending to a meal, that didn’t leave you stuffed, but left you very, very satisfied.
The Food52 team held a contest to win a seat at this dinner and may do so again for their future ones, so make sure to keep an eye out! And if you haven’t gotten their Genius cook book yet, make sure to grab it!
A special thanks to Nanette Wong for snapping the top photo of cofounder Lisa and Marketing/Community Manager Patrick!
